4/7 - Gardy re-joins the Wings

Well, in today's news, Minnesota Twins second baseman Tsuyoshi Nishioka broke his leg in the game against the New York Yankees. Nishioka took a hard slide from Yankees' Nick Swisher, who was trying to break up the double play. That specific play set up a chain reaction throughout the Twins' minor league system.

Luke Hughes was supposed to start tonight at second base for the AAA Rochester Red Wings got called up to replace Nishioka, who will be making a trip to the DL. In a corresponding move, the Red Wings are going to get an old friend back in Toby Gardenhire from AA New Britain. Gardenhire, son of the Minnesota Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire, will be spending his second season with the Red Wings as the team's utility infielder.

In related news, the Rochester Red Wings dropped their season opening game 2-1 to the Pawtucket PawSox. Rene Rivera drove in the team's only run in the fifth inning, bringing Chase Lambin home with a RBI Double. Also, an old friend of mine, former Iowa Cub Rich Hill picked up the win for the Paw Sox.
